The several Birth Control Recall pills is creating a problem for pharmacists and patients, as they attempt to find a replacement for the ones packaged incorrectly. While the immediate fear is that women may have unplanned pregnancies, pharmacists say they have to deal with insurance companies and doctors to try to find the right replacements for patients who had the recalled pills.
Pharmacists are trying to call all patients who bought the Birth Control Recall lots within the last year. They then try to contact the patients’ doctors to approve a replacement. Since the Birth Control Recall are all generic medication, often the replacement will be the brand name version of the same pill. Then, if an automated system sees that a patient only recently refilled a prescription, it may not allow another refill so soon.
